Plumbing Leak Detection and Repair
A leak has a way of showing up at the worst possible time. Maybe you noticed a damp spot on the ceiling that wasn't there last week, or your water bill jumped for no clear reason, or you walked into the laundry room and found water on the floor. Whatever brought you here, we get it. That anxious feeling of not knowing how bad it is or what it's going to cost is genuinely stressful. You just want someone who knows what they're doing to come in, find the problem, and fix it properly.
That's exactly what we do at KC's Plumbing and Heating. Jack Japuncic founded this company in 1993 and has been a Master Plumber his entire career. Every job we take on carries that standard, licensed, accountable, and done right the first time. We keep our trucks stocked so we're not making two trips when one will do, and we'll always explain what we found before we touch anything. If you've got a leak, give us a call and we'll figure it out together.

Bathroom Plumbing Leaks
The bathroom is one of the most common places we're called out to across Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, and the range of what we find varies a lot depending on the age of the home. In older properties with original fixtures, a bathtub faucet dripping overnight often comes down to a worn washer or a seat that's been eroded over decades of use. In newer builds, a tub tap leaking at the base of the spout more commonly points to a failing cartridge inside the valve body. Either way, if your bathroom tub faucet is dripping even after you've cranked the handle tight, tightening it won't help, the internal seal has given out and it needs to be replaced properly.
We carry a water leak detector on every service call so we can confirm exactly where the water is coming from before we start any work. That matters because what looks like a leaky bathtub faucet on the surface can sometimes be a supply line weeping behind the wall.
Finding it accurately means we're not opening up drywall we don't need to. Whether it's a tub leaking from the faucet, a slow drip you can hear at night, or a bathroom tub faucet dripping that's been going on longer than you'd like to admit, KC's Plumbing has the tools and the experience to track it down and fix it right

Kitchen Plumbing Leaks
A dripping faucet in the kitchen might seem like a minor annoyance, but a dripping sink faucet left alone will keep getting worse and will cost you real money on your water bill over time. Hot water leaking under the sink is the one that catches people off guard, it can quietly cause mold and cabinet damage well before you notice any smell or visible sign. By the time it's obvious, the repair is always bigger than it would have been.

We handle leaky faucet repair every day, and our approach is always to do a proper leak detection sweep first, under the sink, along the supply lines, and at the shutoff valves, before we recommend any fix. Whether you need us to repair a dripping spigot, fix a dripping faucet that's been going since winter, or address a leaking spigot at the wall connection, we'll get to the bottom of it and tell you exactly what we found. No guesswork, no upselling work that isn't needed.
Toilet Leaks
A leaking toilet is one of the most common sources of water waste in a home and one of the easiest to miss. If you can hear your toilet running between flushes, or if the floor around the base feels soft or looks discoloured, there's a good chance water has been escaping for longer than you think. A failed wax ring seal at the base can allow water to seep underneath the floor with every flush, and that kind of slow leak does serious damage to subfloor material over time. Inside the tank, a worn flapper, a faulty fill valve, or a cracked overflow tube can all cause water to run continuously, silently in many cases, adding significantly to your monthly water bill without any obvious sign.

KC's Plumbing diagnoses and repairs all types of toilet leaks, from a straightforward flapper replacement to a full wax ring reset. If the toilet is older and the parts are worn through, we'll let you know honestly whether a repair makes more sense than a replacement. Jack and the team have been fixing these problems in Coquitlam and Tri-Cities homes since 1993, we've seen every variation and we'll give you a straight answer on the best path forward.
Pipe Leaks and Hidden Leaks
Hidden pipe leaks are the ones that do the most damage precisely because they go undetected. A pinhole leak in a copper line inside a wall can weep for months before it shows up as a stain on the ceiling below. Older homes throughout Greater Vancouver were built with galvanized steel pipe that corrodes from the inside out over time, by the time a galvanized pipe starts leaking at a joint, the rest of the line is usually in poor shape too. PEX and copper systems have their own failure points, particularly at fittings and where pipes pass through framing.
We use moisture detection equipment to locate hidden leaks accurately before we open any walls or ceilings. If a section of pipe needs to be replaced, we'll walk you through what's involved and give you a clear picture of the cost before any work begins. And if what we find points to a bigger issue with the pipe throughout the home, we can talk through repiping options that make sense for the age and condition of your property.
Appliance and Water Line Leaks
Some of the worst water damage we see in Coquitlam homes comes from appliance connections, not because the appliances themselves fail, but because the supply lines that feed them do. The standard plastic hose that comes with most washing machines is one of the most common causes of serious residential flooding. These hoses degrade over time and when they go, they go fast. A braided stainless supply line is a straightforward upgrade that makes a real difference. We carry them on the truck and can swap yours out in under an hour.
Fridge water lines, dishwasher connections, and the shutoff valves behind appliances are all places we check during a leak detection call. If you've noticed water pooling near an appliance or a soft spot in the floor nearby, don't wait on it. You can read more about our full appliance water line services on the dedicated page. And if a leaking hot water tank is part of the picture, our hot water tank leak page covers what to expect there.
Serving Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities Since 1993
Thirty-plus years of plumbing work in this specific part of the Lower Mainland teaches you things you can't learn any other way. We know the type of housing here, the older ranchers in Coquitlam with galvanized pipe still in the walls, the townhouse complexes in Port Coquitlam where shared water lines create unusual diagnostic challenges, the newer construction in Port Moody where PEX is everywhere but fitting failures still happen. We know where leaks tend to hide in these homes, how the pipe materials common to this area age, and what warning signs to look for that a less experienced eye might miss.

Frequently Asked Questions

KC's Plumbing and Heating serves Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the surrounding Tri-Cities area. Give us a call at 604-873-3753 and we'll confirm we can get to you.
Is KC's Plumbing licensed?
Yes. KC's Plumbing Heating and Drains is fully licensed and insured in British Columbia. Jack Japuncic is a Master Plumber and has been operating this business professionally since 1993. All work is done to code by certified tradespeople.
Do you handle plumbing emergencies?
We do. Leaks don't keep business hours and some situations can't wait. KC's Plumbing is available 24 hours a day for emergency calls. If you've got an active leak causing damage right now, call us at 604-873-3753
What are the signs I have a hidden plumbing leak?
The most common ones are an unexplained jump in your water bill, damp or discoloured spots on walls or ceilings, a musty smell in a room that should be dry, soft or warped flooring, or the sound of running water when everything is turned off. If you're noticing any of these, it's worth having us come take a look before the damage gets worse.
Can a slow drip really cause serious damage?
Absolutely. A small, slow leak can waste hundreds of gallons of water over a month and cause mold, wood rot, and structural damage if it's inside a wall or under a floor. The repair cost goes up significantly the longer it's left. It's always cheaper to fix it early.
What happens if the leak is inside a wall?
We use moisture detection equipment to pinpoint where the water is before we open anything up. If we do need to access the wall, we work carefully to keep the opening as small as possible and we'll explain exactly what we need to do and why before we start.
Do you replace washing machine hoses?
Yes, and we strongly recommend it if yours are still the original plastic supply lines. A braided stainless hose is much more durable and far less likely to cause the kind of flooding we see when plastic hoses let go. It's a small upgrade that can prevent a very expensive problem.
How long does a leak detection call usually take?
For most residential calls it's one to two hours depending on what we find. If the source is straightforward we can often repair it the same visit. If it turns out to be a more complex issue inside the walls we'll give you a clear scope and timeline before any further work begins.
